University of Limpopo coach Strada Dhlamini missed his side’s all important fixture against UWC on Monday due to commitments with the Confederation of Universities and College Sports Association (CUCSA).
Dhlamini left for Zambia on Saturday, where the CUCSA games will take place from Sunday 17 August to 23 August. He is representing the national team of all South African universities as assistant coach for the football team.
“These are Zone Six student games, that is Southern Africa, I will be representing all South African institutions as assistant coach,” he said about the tournament that includes the likes of Angola, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles and Malawi among a few.
He said that he is not going to Lusaka for a holiday, but he wants to come back with a winner’s medal.
“I am looking forward to the national team winning the tournament, winning a gold medal would be great.”
“It is unfortunate that this tournament takes places at the same time with the Varsity Football tournament, we had a challenge of getting enough players, but I am hopeful that the players we have will do the job for us.”
“The team we are taking is not big, it consists of 16 players, we pray that we don’t get any injuries, because it might be prove to be a mountain to climb for team SA,” Dhlamini said.
He said that the last time team South Africa went to these games was in Gaborone, Botswana in 2010.
CUCSA games include other sporting disciplines such as athletes, basketball, chess, volley, rugby among many other sporting codes.
