University of Limpopo coach Burney Mampshika developed his love and interest for coaching 26 years ago and the passion still runs through vigorously through his veins.
Mampshika has always dreamt of taking up coaching fulltime but hasn’t received any substantial offers which would allow him to leave his current occupation.
The educator started his coaching at grassroots level where he helped to develop young talent and he made a positive step when he was offered the post as head coach of the Limpopo institution.
The coach currently holds a Level Two coaching qualification which he received in 2004 and has fond memories of that course as he got to do it with close friends Pitso Mosimane and Steve Khompela.
“I’ve known Steve and Pitso for a long time but as they went into their seperate jobs, we haven’t been in much contact,” he said.
Between teaching the next generation and coaching the tertiary students, Mampshika is currently working towards his Level Three qualification which will allow him to make the step up to coaching on the international stage.
“When I get my Level Three, I’ll be able to coach international teams. It would be nice to coach countries like Zimbabwe and Botswana so that I can help improve the game in Africa,” he stated.
