New boys to the competition University of Limpopo are looking to bring in a brand new strike force for their game against UFS in an attempt to break the underdog tag.
Limpopo looked set to record a debut win against UCT on Monday, only for a 91st minute goal from UCT’s Salgado to force the team from up North to settle for a 1-1 draw.
Limpopo surprised many with their powerful midfield and rock solid defense, but coach Burney Mampshika admits he needs a deadlier strike force – and he plans to do something about it for the UFS game.
“We need to make some decisions this week because we have some star players returning,” he said.
“I want to maybe bring in two or three guys, with a brand new strike force.
“Our top hit-man missed last week after getting knocked out in a warm up game against Super Sport United, but he is back and should slot straight in.”
Mampshika believes that is their super striker was fit for the UCT game he would have been the extra edge that would have secured them the win.
“Against UCT we missed a number of chances, and you know, if we had our regular strikers in, we probably would have won that game.
Limpopo next travel to the Free State to take on UFS and Mampshika knows his team can rattle them.
“We are looking to give them a tough game, just like we did against UCT,” the coach continued.
“We are new to this tournament so for us UFS are a bit of a closed book – we don’t know what to expect – but they can expect a tough game.”
Mampshika went on boldly to speak of his teams ambitions in their first year.
“We want to be in the top four and prove the rest that we are a force to be reckoned with.
“I’ll tell you something else – we are going to beat UFS,” he concluded bravely.
