University of Limpopo manager Strada Dhlamini believes a lapse in concentration is what cost them three points against the University of Cape Town on Monday evening in their first-ever Varsity Football game.
The tournament newcomers almost made a fairytale start at the Green Mile, but a late equaliser from hosts UCT saw the game end in a 1-1 stalement.
Although Dhlamini concedes that UCT were a force on the day, he does think that his men had the game in the bag.
“We didn’t take our chances on Monday. We led the entire game, only to lose focus in the last minute of the game. We didn’t concentrate the whole game and as a result we drew,” said Dhlamini.
He said that they will work on their strikers this week in order to sharpen them for the next coming games. He said goals are what they are looking forward to scoring.
The men from the north say that they will go back to the drawing board to rectify mistakes made against the Cape side. Dhlamini does acknowledge though that concentration is an individual thing.
He said: “Concentration is a life aspect, not a football aspect. But, we will come up with a few exercises in order to ensure that the boys concentrate throughout the entire game.”
Dhlamini said that they will do anything in order to win their next game against Kovsies on Monday. He said that he got wind of the Free Staters performance against the University of Pretoria.
He said although they lost, they gave a good account of themselves on the day. He added that they will play to their strength, and try to catch Kovsies unware in their own backyard. He said that a good game is in the offing.
