Wits University will look to improve their results in the last few matches in order to have a chance of qualifying for this season’s knockout stages. Next week they’ll have to travel to the Eastern Cape in a bottom-of-the-table clash against tournament debutants the University of Fort Hare, in Alice.
Both teams are yet to register a victory in the tournament thus far, with Wits falling just short once again last Monday against CUT in the Western Cape. UFH on the other hand, managed to grab their first point of the tournament, which still leaves them at the bottom of the log while Wits occupy the second-to-last spot with a game in hand.
This week will be another tough one for the Witsies, because it sees them on the road again, after last week’s long trip to the Cape, where they lost 2-1. The Wits team management, however, have brought some fresh minds and legs into the squad for this trip to Alice.
The starting line-up sees three changes with Baliwe Moyakhe, Tshireletso Motsogi and Mahudu Seageng dropping out of the starting 11, with Tristan Gatter, Keamogetawe Mokalake and Koketso Sefako entering the fray. The rest of the team stays as is, with many new faces featuring on the bench.
The Witsies will hope that their ploy of rotating the squad and the minor changes to the starting lin- up will aid them in finally reaching the same levels they reached last season, when they went all the way to the semi-finals.
The battle between the Witsies and UFH will be played at the Davidson Stadium in Alice on Monday 15 August 2016 at 18.30, where both teams will battle it out for the crucial three points.
Wits Starting XI to face UFH: Brylon Petersen, Snethemba Msane, Kaizer Maphanga, Obert Rukato Jr, Tristan Gatter, Keamogetswe Mokalake, Mahle Mtabane, Saluleko Mathonsi, Lyndon Crouch, Koketso Sefako, Graeme Dor
Subs: Sthembiso Zuke, Sicelo Khumalo, Iacovos Ioannides, Luke Pereira, Makana Mphuthi, Tumisang Manamela, Shaun Matintela
