Wits University continued their good run of form, this time around beating the Madibaz 76-31 in a third round Varsity Basketball tournament game at the Wits Old Mutual Sports Hall, making it their third successive victory.
The Madibaz are still yet to taste success in the tournament so far but one positive they can draw from the game is that, they limited Wits scoring more points than they could have. The Witsies on the other hand were fearless in the way they played but they would have hoped to get more points on the board, considering the opportunities that came their way.
The game was there for the taking for Wits from the start, with Angelo Quinn even producing a spectacular jump shot, that got his side a three-pointer. That pretty much set the tone for the rest of the game, with Briarly Klaasen also often linking up well with Miguel Ferrao to lead Wits a good early lead. The Madibaz did eventually the scoreboard ticking on their end but it was a bit too late with Wits already 39 points up at the interval.
With 17 points on the board for the Madibaz in the first two quarters, the next two would take a huge effort from them to catch the Witsies. Unfortunately for them that is not how things worked out in the third quarter, with them only adding 4 points. Wits however continued their great run finishing the quarter 60-21.
The final quarter was quite one sided, except towards the end, where the Madibaz bagged a few points in an attempt to make the scoreboard look more respectable. Wits at the conclusion of play made it three out of three so far, with an emphatic 76-31 win.
