Wits University will look for better fortunes next Monday, the 25th July as they play their first home match of the season against UWC, in a clash that will see both sides going in search for their first victory of the tournament.
The first game of the season saw Wits go down 2-1, after leading fairly early in the first half. A stoppage-time penalty after TUT had equalised then saw the Witsies fall at the death.
The last time these two sides met was in the 2015 Varsity Football semi-final, where the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate, before being decided on penalties, where UWC triumphed 4-2 in front of their home supporters. This time around, the Witsies will be hoping their home support help them turn their fortunes around.
A positive going into this Round Two fixture for Wits, is that all their players who took knocks on Monday evening against TUT, have recovered fully after the coaching staff decided to give their men the day off on Tuesday. The decision paid off well and the coaches have decided to stick with the same starting lineup and bench as for the match against TUT this past Monday.
However, this time around Wits will look to be more clinical in their finishing whilst tightening things up more at the back, after their defence was tested many times during the first round match. The Witsies believe it won’t be an easy match, but are maintaining belief in themselves as they attempt to kick-start their tournament.
The game will be televised live from the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on SuperSport at 16.30pm.
