Spirits are high in the Wits camp following their convincing performances in their last two Varsity Football games.
After what seemed to be a rather slow start, with the team not playing as well as they could have, they managed to turn things around in Rounds Five and Six.
The dreaded Slaughterhouse did not live up to its name when the Wits side edged VUT 2-1.
Things did not go as planned for NWU-Pukke either when they lost to Wits 1-0.
This is exactly what the Wits side needed to boost their morale, and captain Hope Munyani agrees.
“The spirit is high after winning the last two games, the guys are feeling good about the results,” Munyai said.
Wits will meet a struggling WSU side on Monday evening. Of the six matches WSU has played they have lost four, won one and drawn one. The home side is however going into this game as cautiously as they have been doing with all the others.
“We aren’t doing anything special to prepare for this match. We are doing what we’ve been doing for the last week and we are hoping we’ll get the same result we’ve been getting for the past two weeks,” Munyai said.
The team is however aware of the importance of Monday’s game. It will after all be their opportunity to re-write their history in this tournament after having a not-so-good run in 2013.
“If we get the result we’re looking for, we’ll advance to the knockout stages and the guys know the importance of the game, I hope that the (positive) spirit will carry on throughout the rest of the tournament and maybe it will take us forward to win the tournament,” Munyai said.
Wits will play WSU on Monday evening at the Bidvest Stadium. The game will kick off at 6pm.
