There will be all to play for in Camps Bay on Sunday, with spots in the knock-out stages up for grabs in both the Varsity Sevens and Beach Volleyball.
The extremely windy conditions in Camps Bay have forced matches in both tournaments to be postponed to Sunday morning, which means that there will be a lot riding on the early matches before the knock-out phases.
In the Sevens competition there are just nine log points separating the top six teams, and with the final round of fixtures before the play-offs set to be played on Sunday morning it is set up for a thrilling climax.
Defending champions Maties avoided defeat on Saturday, with victories over UCT, UJ, Tuks and UWC sending them to pole position.
Having gone unbeaten to top the standings on Friday, Tuks suffered two defeats on Saturday at the hands of Cape sides UWC and Maties to throw the competition wide open.
UWC made a big move with victories over Tuks, NWU-Pukke and Limpopo putting them in fifth place and firmly in the mix for a spot in the Cup competition when action resumes on Sunday.
The Bellville outfit proved to be powerplay specialists, with late tries against powerhouses Tuks and Pukke establishing them as one of the teams to watch on the final day.
UJ and Kovsies finished strong on Saturday to move into third and fourth position respectively, whilst Pukke are also in with a shout in sixth place which sets up what should be a nail-biting finish on Sunday.
The final round of Sevens action kicks off at 11.20 on Sunday before the competition is split into the Cup and Plate, with the knock-out stage of the tournament starting at 14.00.
Beach Volleyball action will get underway at the early hour of 6.00, as the ladies make up a full day of fixtures which were lost on Saturday.
The race for knock-out spots is also wide open, with six teams firmly in the running to crack the top four, although none of the sides have troubled defending champions UWC who have maintained their unbeaten Varsity Beach Volleyball record thus far.
