There were a number of impressive goalkeepers on display during Varsity Football, and it is time to vote for who you think deserves to be the Debonairs Pizza Dynamite Goalie.
There have been some stunning goals during the inaugural Varsity Football tournament, but there have also been some impressive efforts from the men between the posts as well, and you can now have your say by voting on the Varsity Sports Facebook page.
The first nominee is UP-Tuks shot-stopper Tristyn Coetsee whose experience in the PSL proved crucial for his team on their road to the final.
Coetsee was inspirational in Tuks’ dramatic 1-0 semifinal victory over NWU, as he managed to keep the considerable strike power of the Mafikeng outfit at bay with some athletic saves to eventually take the man of the match award.
The second goalkeeper in the running is TUT’s King Ndlovu who formed a vital part of his team’s unbeaten run through the league phase of the competition.
Ndlovu’s composure in the box saw him concede just seven goals in his team’s eight matches as he commanded his penalty area with authority throughout their campaign.
The final player up for the award is UCT’s Bevan Adonis, who was certainly kept the busiest goalkeeper in the competition as his team finished the competition at the bottom of the standings.
Despite his team’s struggles Adonis stood out throughout the tournament by consistently producing some fine saves under pressure.
The final decision on which player is announced as Debonairs Pizza Dynamite Goalie will be determined by a split vote with fans voting on the Varsity Sports website and Facebook page making up 40% of the vote, the input of the coaches counting for 30% and the Varsity Sports MANCO the other 30%.
