Can’t remember how a Power Play works or what happens if teams are level at full-time of a semi-final or final? Here’s a quick reminder heading into the 2021 tournament.
POWER PLAY
- A Power Play can be called by any coach of the participating teams on court, during any quarter. This must be indicated by the team that called the Power Play by waving their team flag visibly for the technical table to see.
- Must be taken from the next centre pass of the team that called the Power Play.
- Can only be called once by a coach for the duration of the match.
- Will be a dual Power Play.
- Will be for two minutes.
- Goals scored during the Power Play will count as two points.
- If the shot is taken as the hooter goes for the end of the two minutes, the shot will still count as two points if in. Should a penalty goal be awarded before the Power Play ends, the shot is to be taken and if successful count as two goals.
- Power Play to be indicated by a team with raising a flag.
- Power Play officials to monitor the beginning and end of the Power Play, and advise on-court umpires, scorers, statisticians and timekeepers by making use of a hooter.
- No injury time during the Power Play – an immediate substitution must be done.
- Any stoppages to replace the ball will be allocated as umpire’s time.
- Normal rules of play will be implemented during the Power Play.
- Last two minutes of the match will automatically be a Power Play should a team not call for it during a match. If both teams did not call for a Power Play then the last four minutes of the match will be Power Play.
