NWU-Mafikeng Soccer Institute defender, Kyle Amon, has been awarded a two-year soccer scholarship at the University of New Hampshire in the United States of America. He was first scouted during the 2014 Varsity Football tournament.
A variety of universities in the USA showed interest in him, but he decided on the University of New Hampshire because of its good ranking and strong research focus.
Kyle, who is originally from Cape Town, completed his Bachelors degree in Public Administration at the North-West University’s (NWU’s) Mafikeng campus. He will be studying a master’s degree in Community Development, Policy and Practice at the University of New Hampshire.
“It’s a blessing, because even though I want to be a professional soccer player one day, I also need to have a good academic background. I want to see myself playing for one of the Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, preferably New York City,” Kyle says.
The Soccer Institute is one of the platforms through which NWU-Mafikeng produces well-rounded graduates and enables them to improve their skills, values and knowledge to contribute to society. In the words of Kyle: “It’s through the Soccer Institute that I played Varsity Football and it’s through the Varsity Football tournament that I managed to get this all-inclusive soccer scholarship.”
