It was another action-packed round of Varsity Football fixtures that set the atmospheres in the stands alight. This week the following four players caught the attention of our team.

Boy Rantsoti (UFS)
The UFS striker makes the Players that impressed selection once more after showing some exceptional pace in the attack and the first touch for his goal was simply brilliant. He ran a beautiful and tight line to collect the pass that Sello Diphoko threaded through a needle.
Diphoko himself was brilliant and could easily have scored a hat-trick on the night. His goal, too, was right off the top shelf and would certainly have caught the attention of PSL scouts, if any were in attendance.
However, our vote goes to Rantsoti, because as captain, Angelo Arendse, said “Boy has been a breath of fresh air,” to the UFS attack.

Simiso Xaba (UKZN)
Defender Simiso Xaba helped UKZN finally collect their first win of the 2022 Varsity Football campaign. Xaba came up with a fine solo goal during his Man of the Match performance against record champions Tuks.
He played an important role in assisting UKZN to penetrate Tuks in the middle, a kind of defender you need in your squad, technically brilliant, scores goals and defends well.
He kept his defence organised for the entire encounter, helping the Impi to frustrate Tuks.

Tebogo Lekaba (TUT)
The TUT captain was a constant threat to the opposition goal despite his natural position as a defender. He took matters into his own hands when converting a first-half penalty which proved to be the only goal of the game to hand his side an important win in the top-four race.
He helped TUT by leading from the back, making sure they bring home the important win and a fourth clean sheet of the 2022 Varsity Football campaign.

Thanda Madiba (UJ)
Thanda Madiba was very impactful in UJ’s 1-0 win over VUT, shining especially in the team’s build-up play by adding an extra man for his side’s attacks. His crosses kept on causing havoc in the VUT defence, even though striker Gerald Ndlovu couldn’t turn them into a goal.
However, the left-back himself took matters into his own hands as he scored the only goal of the game, which was already his second in this year’s Varsity Football tournament.
Along with Thulani Zandamela, Madiba remains one of the most consistent players on the UJ side.
