Public voting for the Varsity Football 2022 FNB Player of the Tournament has been suspended due to suspected vote manipulation irregularities picked up in the social media voting process. As result of suspected automated vote generation all votes received via public voting have been declared null and void and will no longer count towards determining the winner of this year’s tournament. An overall winner will still be chosen where the player who received the most points from the head coaches’ votes will be presented with the FNB Player of the Tournament award after the final.
During the nomination process the Varsity Football head coaches from each participating team selected three nominees for the award and were not allowed to nominate a player from their own university. The coaches ranked their nominees from first to third place, with first position worth three points, second position two points and third position one point.
As was the case in last year’s tournament the player who received the most total points from the coaches’ votes will be presented with the award after the final on 22 September.
The top three nominees for the FNB Player of the Tournament are Thulani Zandamela (UJ), Sello Diphoko (UFS) and Ntokozo Mgidi (VUT).
The 2022 Varsity Football final between UJ and TUT will kick off at 18:00 on Thursday, 22 September and be broadcast live on SuperSport Variety 4 (DStv channel 209).
