In an Olympic year, there’s an added element of excitement to beach volleyball, as players have an opportunity to stake a final claim for national selection. Although the Varsity Beach Volleyball tournament is held over two days in autumn, the action is nothing short of sizzling.
Six teams, each consisting of three players will do battle on Cape sands at the University of the Western Cape, as five top sides aim to pry the trophy from the hosts’ hands. UWC have managed to win title on three occasions and defeating them on their own turf will be a tough task.
It’s the perfect setting for students and families around Cape Town to come and enjoy some midweek beach volleyball action and soak up the last rays of sunshine before the cool Cape Doctor hits.
Enjoy the 20-minute, action-packed matches, with a new match taking place every 30 minutes and two exhibition matches taking place each day.
