UWC will seek to use their 7-0 thrashing of the lads from Limpopo in their clash with UKZN and overcome their record of poor performances on the road
Following three consecutive defeats, the much experienced University of Western Cape (UWC) faced the University of Limpopo (UL) where they came out emphatic 7-0 victors against the Limpopo debutants.

This meant that the boys from UWC collected their first points in the tournament which has now given them something to work from. Consequently, the results have become a morale booster to the Western Cape university team.
However, their former matches may not be completely ruled out, as their tag of being poor travellers is still a valid one.
In the tournament’s first match, UWC were edged by the Noble Boys 2-1 on the day, in the North West province. Thereafter, their next defeat was issued out to them by the Witsies, 1-0, with a heartbreaking Waylan Rooi toe poke in stoppage time. The away poor performance curse for the UWC continued.
The third loss came through an unfortunate home defeat against the Red Machines of TUT in a 1-0 defeat to the Bellville side which was through an own goal from the home side.

This week UWC travels to Durban to face the tournament’s unlucky debutants and USSA champions University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) who have not picked up any points thus far.
On paper, the match swings more to the Bellville side, but football is a game of surprises and the rock bottom team also have a point to prove in their first ever Varsity Football tournament.
FNB Player of the Match in the game against UJ, Tholinhlanhla Zondi stated, “Considering the fact that we are no longer in the running to win the Varsity Football tournament, we will not back down. We will continue training with the boys and try to move from the tail (of the log).”
The match takes place at the Howard College Stadium and kick-off is @18:15 pm.
