The 2016 finalists pull ahead in second round of Varsity Beach Volleyball.
UWC vs VUT
In game four, UWC wasted no time in taking the lead, perhaps saying to their opponents VUT, let’s get this done and dusted. Again the combination of Banjaicke Della (captain) and Tamlyn Thomas was just too strong. The pair showed great team work and understanding, something that was evidently lacking in other teams. Della led from the front and wherever possible assisted her team mate.
For VUT, Asiwe Makhatini tried her best to keep their team in the game, but the defending champs were just too good, signaling their intentions to make it 5 from 5 championship titles. But it’s still way too early to start thinking along those lines.
Final Score: UWC 45 VUT 25
TUT vs Tuks
The all-Tshwane Derby was up next in game five as Nomode Maya and Nonsikelelo Sithole came up against Vanessa Sardinha da Silva and Khutso Letsoalo. Maya’s crisp serves and captain Sithole’s assist passes and sand saves was the telling difference in this game. At one stage, TUT looked like they would turn the game around, but in the end they ran out of steam as Tuks proved their basic beach volleyball skills would carry them home.
Final score: Tuks 46 TUT 33
UJ vs UL
The game between UJ and UL was tightly contested and played in the blazing midday sun with the temps peaking at 30 degrees. No quarter asked and non were given as these two teams went head to head and toe to toe, with just two points in it at the halfway point in favour of UL.
UJ made a substitution early in the second half as Marwa Okili came in for Nkosinodumo and this brought them back into the game but UL played solid volleyball and returned some pearlers as they turned up the heat. They won 5 points in a row and that turned out to be the difference as UL romped home by 41-26 over UJ.
Final score: UJ 26 UL 41
