A combination of injury problems and tactics has forced UWC coach Aboobaker “Boebie” Williams to ring some changes as his side aims for maximum points when they host the University of the Free State at home on Monday 4 August.
Williams, a former national Under 17 and Under 20 coach, was forced to replace left back Keenan Davis, who sustained an ankle injury during their 1-0 defeat away at the North West University, with Robin van Rensburg being brought in.
Right back Kuhle Mpahlwa will start on the bench and his place will be taken by Dane Samaai, as the Bellville-based UWC side try to strengthen its defence.
Captain Cleo Pokpas is still nursing his knee injury and will watch the game from the stands.
His place has been taken by Akhona Bonga who, for tactical reasons, goes into the central midfield, while Jason Brown moves to the centre back.
After drawing 2-2 with Varsity Football newcomers in their opening game a fortnight ago, Williams and his charges will seek to use the game as an opportunity to show their home supporters that they are not just making numbers in the competition.
