UP-Tuks showed great determination to hold off a tough UJ side 2-1 in their Varsity Hockey clash in Potchefstroom.
The Pretoria side took an early 2-0 lead as Lisette du Plessis and Janie Porteaus scored in the opening period to give them a good advantage at the first break.
However, UJ fought back well and a goal from Georgina Crisp in the second period saw them close the gap to 2-1.
The final period was tense as both sides had their opportunities but Tuks held on well to get their campaign off to a winning start.
Tuks’next clash is on Sunday when they will face a Maties team that went down to hosts Pukke on Saturday, whilst UJ will take on Wits who drew 1-1 with UCT.
