Pukke continued their unbeaten run in Varsity Hockey when they trounced UJ 5-1 in the final game in Potchefstroom on Monday evening.
The were no goals in the first period of the game as neither side could assert their dominance over the other but it did not take long in the second period for Pukke to hit their stride.
The home side took the lead fairly early in the game when they scored through midfielder Celia Evans.
They added another three goals before the last break and were well in command over their rivals from Johannesburg.
Going into the last 20 minutes of the game the lead was too much for the UJ girls to turn around and although they did manage to score a goal of their own the home side scored another goal to win the match 5-1.
It was a great evening for Celia Evans who managed to bag herself a hat-trick of goals for Pukke.
The side from Potchefstroom are the only side to win all their games so far, and after three games they have not been challenged by any of their opponents.
BROADCAST NOTE:
The planned broadcast of the Varsity Hockey matches between Kovsies and Maties and UJ and Pukke had to be suspended, following a technical fault in Supersport’s outcast broadcast van.
Supersport has apologised and will now feature highlights packages of both matches, especially for the fans who couldn’t make it to the North-West University’s astro fields.
The next round of Varsity Hockey matches takes place from 11 – 13 May at the University of the Free State and the University of the Free State. Supersport have now decided to broadcast four of the matches on 13 May (two from Bloemfontein and two from Johannesburg).
All four playoff matches will also be aired live from the University of Pretoria on 20 May.
