The University of KwaZulu-Natal has found a star in their skilful and fan-favourite winger, Njabulo Mkhize. The teen has shared his experience in the second season of Varsity Football as well as his ambitions for the near future.
As the University of KZN continues to struggle in the Varsity Football competitions, the level of performance and production of talented players has been worth noting and impressive, almost completely contrary to their results.
The recent graduate duo of Nqubeko Dlamini and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Sifiso Mlungwana who continue to shine in Lamontville Golden Arrows are good examples of what UKZN has offered.
This season, it is clear that UKZN has found new talent yet again in their new jersey number 11, Njabulo Mkhize.
The flair-filled winger has received praises from many including his current coach Delron Buckley, who believes in the talents and attributes of the young man from Durban.
“He is a tactical player and an intelligent player. He is so confident,” Buckley told Varsity Football.
Despite his side only having gained one point after the first three rounds, and being bottom of the table, Mkhize has shown his class consistently in all three games he has played, leaving many raving about him after the match.
“I’m a very ambitious person I have big dreams. I want to be a professional football player,” he stated.
“Playing in varsity football has been a great experience, you get that taste of being a professional (footballer). When you play in varsity football, you play on live television and it is like a dream come true.”
With this being his second season of Varsity Football action, and seemingly a season of his coming of age, the winger had high praises for his current coach, adding that his contribution to his level of play has been impeccable.
“It’s been amazing and it has been a pleasure to be working with him [Delron Buckley],” Mkhize said.
“He’s very open and you can [easily] speak with him as a player. He has done so much in our squad and we are not the same team we were last season, although the only problem is that we are still not producing results.”
After many continue to predict the former Golden Arrows academy winger as being a top-tier player shortly, the starlet stressed that he is putting his name out there for everyone to see.
“I’m ready [to play professional football], but I need to work more. I may not be in the same level of fitness as professional players are because I’m not used to competing at such a high level, but, I can quickly adapt and compete,” the attacker concluded.
In the upcoming games, the men from UKZN will be looking to find some more happiness from their remaining matches, and if the likes of Mkhize continue to play as they have been playing, there might still be a glimpse of hope for the KZN team.
UKZN take on NWU at Mafikeng Stadium at 17:00 today. The game will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4.
