UJ will be taking nothing for granted heading into the first round of Varsity Netball fixtures in Port Elizabeth.
The Johannesburg side finished fourth at USSA this year, but they know that they will be tested in every match, starting with hosts NMMU on Saturday.
Team manager Charlotte Scholtz said that her team cannot afford to look past their opening match.
“Our goal is to win our first game and then ultimately to improve on our fourth position achieved at USSA,” she said.
Scholtz knows that NMMU will provide a stern test on home soil, despite the fact that her team enters the game as favourites.
“It is very dangerous to assume because every game is a tough and the result of which should never be taken for granted. If your team is not switched on mentally for the so called easier games a negative result could ensue.
“Maties and NMMU are always tough competitors to play against, and we will have to go in with the right attitude,” she warned.
The UJ manager highlighted the need for her side to stay sharp no matter the opposition as all of the teams will be highly motivated to prove a point.
“A lot can change between USSA and Varsity Sport and we need to be prepare for these games as if we are playing against Tuks or Kovsies. We will definitely take it one game at a time work on our mistakes to ensure the best possible results. Our goal of course is to win all our games in order to build confidence in the team for the rest of the competition,” she said.
