The second game of the Varsity Basketball tournament was one-way traffic, with the University of Johannesburg putting in quite a shift to humiliate the Madibaz 126-19 and get their campaign off to a fantastic start.
Game Two got off as expected according to the bookies, with UJ expressing themselves very early in the game, running away to a 29-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. This allowed the Johannesburg outfit to express themselves freely in the second quarter, where the crowd cheered them on loudly. The three-pointers, lay ups and jump shots were coming from all angles from the UJ men, who looked untouchable increasing their lead to 40 points without a reply from the Madibaz.
The men from the Eastern Cape did eventually find a way to register points on the board, firstly with an incredible three-point jump shot. The quarter did eventually conclude with UJ enjoying a 56-7 lead at the half time break.
The third and fourth quarter was just simply more of a dominant display from the men from Joburg. The Madibaz often looked to counter attack but UJ’s ability to quickly change to attack, almost always caught the Madibaz napping defensively. In the end the challenge from UJ was too much for Madibaz boys, eventually slumping to a mammoth 126-19 loss, with UJ skipper Nqosa Lehloenya picking up the MVP honours.
