The men’s field events in Stellenbosch saw a few stand-out results posted as UJ dominated proceedings.
The Johannesburg University took three of the four events on offer with Jaco Engelbrecht winning the Shot Put, Zarck Visser claiming the Long Jump honours and Donovan Snyman dominating the Discus event.
The High Jump was the only field event not won by UJ, with Kovsies’ JVA Steytler taking the honours with a 2.11m jump.
In the shot put Engelbrecht blew the opposition away, with his 19.27m effort over three metres further than his nearest competitor Ryno van Winkel from Kovsies.
In the Long Jump national champion Visser showed his class with a jump of 7.81m, with Willem Coertzen from Pukke edging out Tuks’ Francois Coetzee by a mere two centimetres to claim second spot.
The Discus was more closely-fought, but Snyman delivered the goods with a throw of 53.79m which was enough to put him past Maties’ Wynand Carstens.
The High Jump Steytler managed a jump of 2.11m to beat off the challenge of NMMU’s Garth Ellis whose jump of 2.08 saw him comfortably claim second place with his nearest competitors on 2.00m.
