As the season ended for the men from Alice, the time has come to close the chapter and move on as they prepare for yet another qualification week down in Port Elizabeth during the USSA games.
Despite their back to back losses, the men from Alice will take pride in their historic victory and one draw. There are positives to be taken out of their 2016 Varsity Football campaign.
“It’s been a short season, we could not find our winning ways and find our footing in the early stages of the competition, and hence we took so long to earn points. But the amount of experience we have gained and the exposure is beyond words, and that will be our building block as we prepare yet again for qualification for next year’s Varsity Football,” said head coach Charles Hanyani.
The men from Alice, did not achieve what they had hoped for but it seems as though the team remains positive. UFH bids farewell to a number of their core players: defender Bathandwa ‘Gold’ Zondani, top goal scorer Andile Batyi, and both first and second choice keepers Emmanuel Mashabela and Phakamani Mangona.
The men from Alice will put their heads down and begin working hard in scouting new players and also working on their team to ensure they don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of the 2017 Varsity Football season next year.
The crowd of Alice has been blessed in a memorable year as they celebrate their centenary, having witness the Varsity Shield rugby and Varsity Football, the small town in the Eastern Cape has what is only seen in big cities.
