The men from Alice have found themselves in a spot of bother early on in the season. At this point in the tournament, collecting points is very crucial. Having played three games and lost all three, the University of Fort Hare are yet to find their winning rhythm and facing defending champions University of Western Cape does not make it any easier on them.
“It is very hard as coach to try find faith after three losses, but we knew it was never going to be an easy task,” said head coach Charles Hanyani. “The task ahead of us is one we knew was going to need more than just talent to win. So we refuse to throw in the towel, we will need to have courage in the face of adversity if we wish to find our winning ways.”
After such a start to Varsity Football, the men from Alice need to bring joy to their institution so that the home crowd can have a sweet memory in a memorable year.
“We are going ahead with our plan, we want to win, at what level we win on remains to be seen, when the tournament is done. We will bring joy to our campus. Some lessons are hard-learned and that is what we have been doing these past three games. My players are ready, and we are going to give a show like no other,” said confident captain Siphamandla Zanekile.
The team has remained the same, the formation that the coach uses has stayed the same, we have seen that they can score the goals, so the main aim for them ahead of this home fixture, is to get a lead and maintain it.
The men from University of Western Cape will travel to Alice and face the victory-hungry University of Fort Hare on the 8 August at 19:00, live from Davison Stadium in Alice.
