The Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) will not be among the top eight teams participating in the 2014 Varsity Football tournament, which starts on July 21.
TUT Pretoria was found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their men’s football team during the 2013 University Sport South Africa (USSA) national football club championship, which serves as the qualifying tournament for the Varsity Football tournament.
The finding resulted in TUT’s disqualification from the USSA tournament and, accordingly, the institution forfeited its log points and all earlier results obtained in the tournament were nullified, i.e. they were excluded from the final USSA standings for 2013.
According to CEO Flip van Zyl, Varsity Sports is satisfied that the correct processes were followed and that the integrity of both the USSA and Varsity Football tournaments has been preserved for the benefit of all participating teams.
