TUT head coach Bushy Moloi says they will pick up the pieces after their loss to UWC in this year’s Varsity Football Final and rebuild for next year’s edition.
The Pretoria side could not hang onto their early first-half lead in an exhilarating match, with the Cape side putting in a dominant second-half performance to win 2-1.
“We can do better and I hope certain things change for the future of the university. We can do better next year when this tournament starts again,” Moloi told varsitysportssa.com.
“The second half was very terrible for us. I can only count three opportunities we had in the opponents half and that was not good enough.
“We lost our shape terribly in the second half and we conceded two silly goals. Congratulations to UWC and its back to square one for us.”
Moloi said his team was outplayed by the Capetonians in the midfield and believes his players gave them too much space to play with.
“Our defence with the centre midfielders got too excited. I think we were sitting too deep in the centre. When we played the ball high away from our goal we could not even reach the halfway line.
“I think they mastered the way they wanted us to play and congratulations to UWC. They did it and it is sad for us and Tshwane. When we got the goal we thought we were going to do it this time around,” he added.
After losing to UWC twice this year, Moloi hopes his team gets another shot at them later this year at the USSA National Football Club Championships.
“I don’t know if they qualified for the club champs (USSA). We should do battle again in that tournament,” said Moloi.
“There can only be one winner and unfortunately now it was not our time. We have beaten other teams that went out early, but we only went out in the Final. No one speaks about the loser, they only speak about the winner.”
