After a slow start to Varsity Football UP-Tuks have found some good form and are looking forward to the upcoming play-offs.
The USSa champions beat UFS 4-0 in their first away match of the season in Bloemfontein, and feel as though they are peaking at just the right time.
Captain Kabelo Ramongane insists that his team are not concerned about who they could meet in the semifinals yet, as they are focused on getting there first.
“I would like to face any team at this stage, I don’t really mind who we could end up playing, I think that as a team we are nearing our peak so anyone of the teams that we end up facing will end up being a good challenge for us as a team,” he said.
Ramongane is confident in his team and their fourth position on the standings as they prepare to face UWC in Tshwane on Monday.
“After the two wins that the team has achieved we will be going into Monday’s game confident especially after this past Monday’s win which has significantly increased our chances of making it into the semis,”he said.
“Knowing that we need one point out of two games gives us a sense of peace and feeling less anxiousness, but at the same time it’s one of those games where I feel that we need to win in order to continue growing into the tournament until we peak at the knock out stages,” Ramongane added.
The Tuks skipper has been impressed with the standard in the competition and believes it will stand the players in good stead as they look to break into the professional ranks.
“I am quite exuberant about Varsity Football; I think the stage that has been prepared for us is very big. In a matter of fact it is the same thing as playing professionally because we experience everything that professional Footballers experience.
“The supporters have been phenomenal, when we play at home we feed off our supporters energy. Even when we were playing against TUT we could sense their energy rubbing off onto us, especially when we were down 3-0 they were still singing and cheering, they had this hope that the team will come back and that energy motivated us,” he said.
He is very humbled to be considered man of the match for the game against UFS and said that he was quite surprised by the award.
“In my opinion I think the Free State captain was a far better player than me, so I am humbled by the award.”
