Tuks’ Alexandra Michael and team mate Moyahabo Monyemangena secured the fifth position for their team with a 1-0 victory over Kovsies in the Varsity Women’s Football tournament on Saturday afternoon in Potchefstroom.
It was a tough first half encounter between Tuks and Kovsies as no goals were awarded. Both teams had equal scoring opportunities but neither side could capitalise on their opportunities by converting them into goals. Going into half time there was no score on the board for either team.
After the break the momentum was going Kovsies’ way as the crowd cheered them on. However Tuks claimed a penalty and Alexandra Michael took it, but missed. Kovsies joined the party as they turned up the heat in the goalless match.
But it was Tuks’ Michael who showed brilliant individual running down the line as she struck for goal and teammate Moyahabo Monyemangena managed to tap in the follow up to secure the first goal of the match as Tuks took the lead 1-0.
As the match went on more goal opportunities came Tuks’ way but they couldn’t manage to turn them into goals. Kovsies, who started the match with determination, fell short in the second half and had to settle with the sixth position in this year’s tournament.
