UP-Tuks suffered their first Varsity Hockey defeat at the hands of hosts Kovsies in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
A double strike from the composed Izelle Lategan secured a deserved 2-0 victory for the Free State side who had to work hard to break down the Tuks defence.
The hosts started in dominant fashion, but it was not until the second chukka that Lategan managed to find the net for the first time from a penalty corner.
Line Malan was shown a green card and Tuks responded by pushing hard while Kovsies were a player down, but the home side managed to hold out well.
Lategan’s second goal came in the third period, when she broke away to make the game safe for her side.
