UP-Tuks edged Maties 51-48 in a thrilling Varsity Netball clash in Stellenbosch on Sunday.
The bonus-point win saw the Pretoria side finish in fourth position, whilst hosts Maties finished in sixth.
This means that Tuks will face the unbeaten NWU-Pukke in their semifinal on Monday, and Maties will take on UJ in the fifth-place play-off.
It was a tense encounter from the outset, as both teams threw everything at each other and traded blows regularly.
The home side secured a slender 15-13 lead at the first break, and the second period was just as close as neither side was willing to back down and hand the advantage to the opposition.
Maties had the backing of a vocal home crowd as they looked to secure fifth place on the standings ahead of the play-offs on Monday.
The home side took a slender lead into half-time, but Tuks made their move in the third period, when a pivotal Samsung Powerplay swung the game in their favour.
Maties pushed hard to the end, but they had to be content with a single bonus point as Tuks took the spoils.
