UP-Tuks head coach, Tlisane Motaung, has named a balanced team for their Varsity Football season opener against defending champions UWC.
Five players in the starting team including captain, Simbongile Njokwe, have played at this level before and Motaung is confident that his charges can upset UWC in Cape Town come Monday.
“Our preparations went well,” Motaung told varsitysportssa.com. “As a team we’ve worked very hard to ensure we can be competitive during the season. We have lost a lot of players from last season but I know that these boys can do it for UP-Tuks.
“UWC deserves respect as reigning champions, but we’ve got our own season goals. The plan is very simple – we need to return to Pretoria with maximum points,” he added.
UP-Tuks get their 2016 Varsity Football campaign underway on Monday, 18 July against UWC at the UWC Sports Stadium in Cape Town. Kick-off is scheduled for 18:30.
