UP-Tuks produced a convincing performance to beat UCT 5-0 in their Varsity Football clash in Tshwane.
The home side scored two goals in the first half and three after half-time against a UCT team that battled to find enough fluency to threaten consistently.
The defeat sees UCT remain rooted to the bottom of the log with just one goal and one log point to show for their efforts thus far this season.
The Cape side made a bright start to the game as they pressed forward and asked questions of the Tuks defence, but the home side were first to score.
UCT goalkeeper Bevan Adonis was forced to produce an impressive save, but Tuks kept the pressure on and Desmond Khuzwayo was able to sweep home the opening goal after a goal-mouth scramble.
The home team kept the pressure on as UCT were forced to defend for most of the opening 20 minutes and Adonis was kept very busy as Tuks pushed forward.
UCT’s opportunities were limited to the counter-attack as Tuks controlled matters and dominated possession, and it was not long before they made it count.
Dean Wilkinson got on the end of a pinpoint cross and made no mistake with the finish to give his side a crucial two-goal cushion at half-time.
Tuks picked up from where they left off in the second half, and caused a few anxious moments at the back for the UCT defence.
The pressure eventually told when a well-weighted ball over the top was met by Mbongeni Masilela who kept his composure to volley the ball past Adonis for Tuks’ third goal.
UCT continued to fight hard despite the deficit, and tested Tuks goalkeeper Tristyn Coetsee with a few impressive shots, but could not find the net.
Instead it was Tuks who scored next as replacement Keegan Boulle scrambled the ball over the line after nearly wasting his first chance to score.
Boulle made it a double soon afterwards when he poked the ball past Adonis to wrap up a comprehensive 5-0 victory for the home side.
