It’s a do or die for UJ and UWC as both are currently on 9 points but with UWC having one game in hand. The two teams battle it out at UJ stadium and the winner will take one more step to the semi-final.
Varsity Sports had a chat with Renaldo Learner who recently returned from representing the country at the World Student Games. The young keeper, who is UWC’s no.1, will be hoping to hit the ground running and help his side secure home semi-final. With UWC conceding four goals against TUT “PAI” as he is known by his teammates will hope to keep a clean sheet.
“It’s nice to be back with the lads after being away whilst representing the country and I hope my presence in the team will motivate the guys and we bring back the three valuable points.”
With TUT having secured a home semi-final spot the boys from Bellville will hope to emulate TUT and secure a home semi-final. With the tag that they don’t do well away from home, UWC will have to start somewhere and UJ is the perfect place to do that. With a win a UJ that would put UWC three points ahead of UJ and level with CUT.
“Tonight’s game is a must-win as we have to get back to winning ways and secure that home semi-final spot, it’s very important that we do well tonight against UJ,” added Learner
This game promises to be an end-to-end spectacle as both teams have a lot riding on this one. The same encounter last season ended 1-0 in favour of UWC with Josh Silent netting the winner. Hopefully when the final whistle is blown we will have a winner.
The game takes place at UJ, Bunting Road Campus at 18:30.
