Like many football fanatics, Kovsies’ Unathi Mabandla’s love for the beautiful game started at a young age while playing on the streets.
“As kids we used to play ‘match’ which is also known as street soccer. My love for the sport grew from then,” he said.
The versatile player is proud to be at “one of the best soccer institutes in the country” after he made the choice to study at UFS.
“I see Kovsie soccer as having one of the best soccer institutes in the country,” Mabandla says proudly about his team.
Mabandla is a product of Navilsig High in Bloemfontein and has thanked the school for giving him a boost in chasing his dream of playing football at a higher level.
The 24-year-old is hopeful to be one of the players who helps change things in their final match and, in the process, make everyone proud of him.
Mabandla chose the University of the Free State because they offered the degree he was interested in but said joining the soccer team was one of the best decisions he has made during his time at varsity.
“I hope to be one of the members to make a change in the team, and obviously take us to the semi- finals. We really deserve it,” he added.
