Striker, Dylan O’Brien, believes playing for UFS could provide the platform to skyrocket his football career.
The talented talisman was scouted by Kovsies coach Godfrey Tenoff after slotting in six goals at the SAB under-21 national championship in 2013.
O’Brien says he feels honoured to play for Kovsies and sees the team growing immensely in the near future.
“I see this team as being one of the toughest football teams that the country has seen. I could go anywhere from here and it’s a great development place for me and the stars of tomorrow,” he said.
The 19-year-old is yet to find the net in Varsity Football, but wants nothing more than to return the favour after Tenoff made the offer for him to move to the Free State.
The Durban-born student spent most of his youth on the east coast in Greyville and matriculated at Durban High School. He is currently completing his Diploma in Human Movement Sciences at UFS.
“It was a brave decision to come here after getting the call from the coach, but I had to take the opportunity since soccer is the one sport I really enjoy playing, ” he said.
The teenager has high hopes for the future and after starting playing soccer at the age of nine, he sees himself playing in the top flight in the near future.
“At a young age I found myself quite fond of the sport and started playing for the fun of it. As I got older I applied myself more and worked harder at my game to hone my skills. If I keep working hard, who knows? Maybe I will soon get a call from PSL coach,” he added.
O’Brien says he is looking forward to good game on Monday when Kovsies travel to Cape Town to face UWC .
