The NWU currently find themselves in a purple patch after another comprehensive victory in the 2019 Varsity Cricket competition with an eight-wicket win against CUT at Senwes Park.
This bodes well for the hosts, who go into Friday’s crunch matches with Maties and Tuks on the back of boat-loads of momentum.
It was once again a supreme bowling and fielding performance combined with assured batting from Nico Davin (35 from 20) and Eben Botha (19 from 12) that set up the win as NWU completed the victory in the power play with the score on 117/2.
CUT meandered to a low 109/8 in their 20 overs with only former NWU player, Hanco Oliver, putting together a steady knock of 41 (47) and providing any sense of stability. NWU’s main strikers in the bowling department were left-arm spinner Danfred Sefoor with 3/21 in his four overs, and Ruan Haasbroek with an economical 2/16 in his four overs.
NWU made haste with their reply as Nico Davin and Louren Steenkamp put on a 50-run partnership before Steenkamp lost his wicket going for one shot too many off CUT spinner Delano Williams.
Botha and Khanya Cotani then proceeded to knock off the winning runs with 9 overs to spare.
