Ikey Warriors’ super striker Michael Salgado has been in red hot form in the Varsity Football tournament finding the back of the net in both games against UL and UP-Tuks respectively.
The first year Bsc Finance student is finding the adjustment to varsity life a little tricky as he attempts to balance his football commitments with his studies.
“To be honest I’m still learning to balance varsity work and football. This is the first time I’ve experienced playing at this level as well as studying at the same time. I really enjoy playing so I think it comes naturally to work harder to make sure I have time for Football,” he said.
There is a sense of family among the UCT students which bodes well for them in a challenging tournament and Salgado feels that their recent match against Tuks has proved they can compete with the best universities in the country.
“The best thing about being a part of this team is that we have become a family while playing competitive football, something we all equally love doing. The game against Tuks was a major mental boost for us and we will definitely carry the momentum forward,” he added
The young striker has remained humble after being awarded the Samsung Super Striker award in both matches and feels elated that he has been able to contribute to the team’s performance.
“It was a great feeling being awarded the Super Striker. As a team we have worked on being clinical in front of goal, so as an attacker, I felt that I had fulfilled my role in the team and am extremely grateful for receiving the awards,” he stated.
Salgado will hope that his football career can continue at the highest possible level once he has completed his pursuit of becoming a Chartered Accountant.
Ikeys will want that the striker to improve his performances throughout the campaign and that his inner Warrior will keep him firing in more goals.
With high ambitions, a humble attitude and a passion for all things football, Salgado is definitely a player to watch.
