Varsity Sport Beach Volleyball action might only start on Friday, but the players are already being put through their paces at a boot camp in Plettenberg Bay.
The camp is being run by Olympic Beach Volleyball player and Beach Volleyball co-ordinator for Volleyball SA Gershon Rorich.
Rorich represented South Africa at both the Athens and London Olympic Games, and he is really excited about what the Varsity Sports Beach Volleyball competitions in Plett and Margate will mean for the development of the sport in South Africa.
He told varsitysportssa.com: “We are expecting Varsity Sports to build the profile of the sport, we really want it to put Beach Volleyball on the map so this is great exposure.
“It is an ideal way to sell the sport and the more students we can get involved in Beach Volleyball the better,” added Rorich.
The boot camps, which will include input from SA born Beach Volleyball star Shauna Mullins, will see coaches and players from all of the Universities put in some hard work to ensure that we see some high quality action in Plett this weekend.
“The idea with the boot camp is to inform and educate everyone. Most people are new to the sport so we will have a seminar or presentation every morning looking at some technical things, and then we will take a look at the talent by getting them to play as much as possible,” Rorich explained.
With serious preparations being put in this week, expect some top Beach Volleyball action when things get underway in Plett on Friday.
