It’s crunch time in this year’s Varsity Netball tournament, as the NWU-Pukke face Maties in the semi-finals on Monday at the Coetzenburg Indoor Centre in Stellenbosch.
The traveling might start to take its toll as the NWU-Pukke haven’t had a single home matche during the Varsity Netball tournament, due to a lack of indoor facilities.
“Although the traveling might be seen as a disadvantage for our team, Coetzenburg already feels like our new home ground because of all the matches we played there during the earlier rounds,” said Chanté Bester, captain of the NWU-Pukke side.
With the Protea players back in the team and with the defeat they suffered against NMMU behind them, the only focus will be on the game at hand.
“Our focus will not be on the previous matches, but to gain rhythm as a team and to improve on our strengths,” said Bester.
“I think that the team lost focus in the last match against NMMU due to the disruption caused by the absence of the Protea players in the squad, who were on national duty,” added Bester.
NWU-Pukke already claimed a 41-32 victory over the Maties in Round One.
The semi-final will be live on Monday at 17:00 on SuperSport 10.
NWU-Pukke team to face Maties: Sigrid (Sigi) Burger, Renske Stoltz, Marna Claassens, Kifiloe Tsotetsi (Fifi), Jomari Myburgh, Mandolien (Mandy) Hermanus, Romé Dreyer, Monique Reyneke, Chanté Bester (Captain), Jeanté Strydom, Simone Rabie, Zandré Kruger.
