The ‘Slaughterhouse’ in Vanderbijlpark awaits as VUT and NWU-Pukke both go in search of their first win in Varsity Football on Thursday.
The clash at the Izak Steyl Stadium will close out Round Two, after there were three home wins which produced a total of eight goals on Monday night.
The visitors NWU-Pukke are at the bottom of the standings, as the only team that failed to pick up a point in the opening round last week. They went down to WSU in Mthatha and will be hoping to turn things around.
The hosts VUT were held to a 0-0 draw by NMMU at home last week, so they will be determined to get the win to get their campaign up and running.
Coach Geelbooi ‘Gomma Gomma’ Masango has picked an unchanged starting line-up from the one that did duty against the Madibaz, and they will be hoping that the ‘Slaughterhouse’ lives up to its name.
Although NWU-Pukke went down to WSU last week, there were some tough conditions in Mthatha and they did manage to score two goals of their own, so they will be keen to show that they are not just in this tournament to make up the numbers.
Another factor is the cameras in what will be the first televised game of the season, and the team that handles the pressure best has a good chance of coming out on top.
Prediction: Expect NWU-Pukke to fight hard, but VUT should have too much firepower so we are backing them to take this one by one goal.
