NWU had to come from behind twice against UP-Tuks in Pretoria on Monday to maintain their unbeaten run this season.
Having lost twice to the eventual champions last season, NWU had something of a point to prove in their Round Five clash, and had to work hard for their 2-2 draw in a thrilling encounter.
However, equalisers from Lindani Dudula and Orebotse Mongae meant that NWU took their first point off UP-Tuks to remain tied with UJ who top the log due to their superior goal difference.
NWU coach Amos Xabanisa was happy with the character his side showed under pressure.
“We knew it was going to be a tough one, we lost concentration and made mistakes early in the match but the boys came in the second half and scored equalising goals,” he said.
NWU Samsung Super Striker Mongae said that the team never gave up hope of salvaging something from the match.
“Playing away isn’t that easy but the team works hard and we didn’t lose hope,” he said.
NWU will be back at the home fortress in Mafikeng next week where they will host UJ in another table-topping clash.
