Varsity Football comeback kids North-West University Mafikeng Campus are set to kick off the Varsity Football tournament with a bang when facing another team that’s also making a return to the tournament, University of Johannesburg, on 18 July 2016.
The season commences with NWU-Mafikeng hosting UJ at the NWU-Mafikeng Stadium at 16h30. The match will be broadcast live on SuperSport 4 and SuperSport Select.
“We are ready for the game on Monday against UJ,” said NWU Mafikeng Football Head Coach, Amos Xabanisa. “They will bring their best, we know, but we have our way of playing having built a good reputation in the Varsity Football tournament. No team will come here and take us lightly.”
In what promises to be an exhilarating clash between the two teams returning to the Varsity Football tournament, fans can surely expect top-class and entertaining football.

“As the NWU Mafikeng Football team we are known to be crowd-pullers, having managed to attract more supporters than any other competing teams in the past,” added Coach Amos Xabanisa. “The players are confident and well prepared entering this tournament. More so having missed the opportunity to participate in last year’s tournament. Expect spectacular football, star performances and large crowds.”
