NWU-Mafikeng coach has, prior to their crucial game against University of Pretoria warned all teams taking part in the Varsity Football tournament that their institute has a reputation to safeguard.
“We know that University of Pretoria beat us in our previous encounter, but I should mention that the in the last game we played against them it was level – they only managed to beat us through penalties,” said NWU-Mafikeng coach Amos Xabanisa.
“We won’t underestimate the University of Pretoria. We know their strength. We know they are disciplined. They also defend very well. They can also surprise you when they attack, so we are expecting a very close game with them,” added Xabanisa.
The coach has also indicated his team going into this match.
“We are preparing optimally for this game. We are working a lot on our defensive shortcomings. We are working on the individual and team defence responsibility. I am also confident in assuring the other teams in this competition not judge us based on the first game,” concluded Xabanisa.
NWU-Mafikeng had a practice game with Orbit College last week which they won 7-0. Orbit College is the team that was playing in the Motsepe league national playoffs for NFD qualification.
