North-West University’s Soccer Institute in Mafikeng Campus has issued a strong warning to their opposition in the Varsity Football championships.
This after the team lost to log leaders, Tshwane University of Technology and drew with second placed Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
The Mafikeng side raced to the top of the Varsity Football standings after winning their first two games in which they scored a total of 10 goals, but consecutive draws since then have seen them move down to third position.
Head coach, Augustine ‘Mkakathi’ Makalakalane has warned that his team will make it to the semifinals as one of the top four teams in the competition.
“We are prepared to fight on. We need to win all our remaining games, because we made things difficult for ourselves by not obtaining maximum points in our last two encounters,” said Makalakalane.
“We need to focus as a team and compete for success to reward our ever loyal supporters who have been behind the team throughout this tournament,” he added.
The team suffered a setback, when blazing striker, Benny Rantese was awarded a red card during a fierce encounter with NMMU which will see him miss their encounter with fifth-placed UWC on Monday at the campus Sports field..
