With five of their seven games away from home this year, NMMU-Madibaz will be targeting some much need momentum on the road against VUT in Round One of Varsity Football.
Madibaz head coach Graham Harrison believes a win that opening game will give them a great start to launch their goal of a semifinal spot.
“If we can get three points from the game it will be an absolute brilliant start for us, bearing in mind that we got an extra away game this year because of our lights being refurbished at our stadium,” Harrison told varsitysportssa.com.
“Instead of having four away games we will be having five, so it will be crucial to us if we can pick up three points. It will put us in good stead for the rest of the tournament.”
Harrison feels that his team are underdogs for the clash, but is adamant that they can come away with the spoils if they stick to their own game.
“We will probably be nervous, but we have to go out there and enjoy it and play to the best of our ability.
“We are going out there to play attacking football. I will tell the boys to be relaxed and calm. Most of the boys have been there barring one or two.
“We need to go out there and play the way we trained and the way we prepared. If we do that I think we will come away with a favourable result if play to our strengths,” Harrison explained.
Harrison, who is in his second year in charge of the team, believes his players are in the right frame of mind to accomplish the task.
“The boys are raring to go. They really looking forward to the first game, albeit being away and they are geared up and can’t wait to get on the field,” Harrison added.
