UCT’s Christie Putter and Carla Stutz will be two of Varsity Beach Volleyball’s newest faces when this year’s tournament gets underway on April 22.
Both players will be playing in their first event at UWC and are relying on the experience of teammate Simphiwe Ndaba and coach Leo Williams to guide them through the challenge.
“Simphiwe is very focussed, but she can be fun too,” Putter told varsitysportssa.com.
“She is helpful as well because I ask her a lot of questions. She is fun to play with.”
UCT will come up against some quality opposition over the two-day event with coach Williams, who is one-half of the Number One ranked men’s beach volleyball pairing in the country, playing a vital role in getting his players ready.
“He is a good coach. He will push you, but then also knows when to be encouraging as well.
“He has a lot of experience to show you what you are doing wrong and show you how to fix it,” said Putter.
Putter, who is a second year Science student, might not be familiar with some of her opponents, but has ensured that she and her teammates will be ready for whatever is thrown at them.
“Preparations is going well. We have indoor training twice a week and on the weekends we head out to Camps Bay.
“I am nervous but I’m also excited. I think it will be a good experience,” she added.
