Kovsies goalkeeper Serasengoe Moodie proved to be the difference between his side and UCT as the Bloem students managed a 2-0 win over the Cape side.
UCT were more determined and gave a good account of themselves as they threw everything they had at their visitors but came up against an in-form Moodie.
UCT enjoyed early possession and had an early chance when Louis-Romain Moussi Sopp had a one on one opportunity against Serasengoe Moodie but the Kovsies shot stopper was up to the challenge and kept the striker at bay.
Kovsies had a chance of their own to open the scoring from a freekick on the edge of the home side’s box but it posed no threat to UCT, who calmly cleared the ball.
The visitors struggled to get going in the first half as they not only had to deal with a determined UCT side but also a strong wind and did well to keep the home side from scoring.
UCT were dominating most of the play in the first half but have Bevan Adonis to thank for keeping Kovsies from scoring as the shot stopper pulled off two great saves in quick succession.
The teams went into the halftime break deadlocked at 0-0.
Byron Donaldson handed the visitors the lead in the 52nd minute when he slotted the ball into his own net from a Kovsies freekick.
Moussi Sopp had another chance in the 59th minute to beat Moodie one-on-one but the UCT striker failed to make it count.
Kovsies managed to hold onto their one goal lead despite the best efforts of UCT with 20 minutes left in the match.
Moodie was called into action yet again in the 75th minute when he was forced into a brilliant save from a freekick by Lukas Metzmacher.
Despite their best efforts in the closing moments of the match, UCT were unable to break Moodie.
Kovsies will have the final say in the match as Walter Phori put Jay Jay Groenewald through and the striker made no mistake in securing maximum for the visitors.
The win keeps Kovsies in the hunt for a semi final spot going into the last round of fixtures.
