The Tshwane University of Technology’s (TUT) Red-Machine will be gunning for nothing less than a win in their quest to top the log when they lock horns with current log-leaders University of Johannesburg (UJ) tonight at 18:15 at UJ’s Soweto Campus.
The Red Army as others prefer to call the team, had an interesting start to the season when they punished defending champions University of Pretoria in a highly contested Tshwane derby at Hatfield. The team went on to gain a rather disappointing one-all draw against struggling newcomers University of Limpopo, before thrashing favourites University of Western Cape and North-west University with a 1-0 champions scores.
According to Elliot Seema, the team’s captain, they approach tonight’s encounter like any other match they have played but, he says they are aware that it is not going to be an easy away game.
“They are the high-scoring team, so we just have to avoid conceding and make sure that we capitalise on the set pieces. And hopefully walk away with 3 points,” said Seema.
In an exclusive pre-match interview coach Bushy Moloi said tonight’s match is one of the toughest games he side will ever play because the stakes are high for both sides. “The struggle to reclaim our dignity continues through our Lord, His Grace, Comforter FLG Modise, and all our supporters across the TUT Community,” he said.
Kegoikantse Kgomo, Senior Sports Organiser at TUT, said it’s another tough match which they are facing and they will treat the match with all the respect it deserves. “We are prepared and hope the results will be positive for us especially knowing that a win will put us at the top of the standings,” Kegoikantse said.
Meanwhile, Shadrack Nthangeni the Director of Sport and Recreation at TUT said as the People’s University they are very proud of what the coach and the team has achieved thus far under difficult circumstances. He said they wish them all the best against the log leaders in UJ Soweto campus tonight, knowing how important a win is to put their beloved TUT on top.
